Giants 45+ (W) 5, at Sidewinders (W) 0
The Giants 45+ captured the second title of their Back to Back Championships by defeating a tough Sidewinder's team 5 to 0. A stellar defense held the Sidewinders in check throughout the day. Mike Mazzi ( 3 for 3) and Charlie Goldberg (2 for 2) led the way for the Giants' hitters.
For the 2008 campaign the Giants had four hitters topping the .400 mark (Mazzi .458, Craig McKee-Parks .444, Don Bradshaw .407 and John Shea .405). Tom Whelan led the team with 23 runs scored followed by Ray Allen with 20. The RBI leaders were Bradshaw with 24, McKee-Parks 15, John Harney 13 and Goldberg 12. Clutch hitting/at bats, especially in the post season, was turned in by Paul Wiederecht, Dave Schwartz and Brian Willis.
The Giants' outfield was bolstered by Hiroaki Ajari, Drew Maran, Bob Jordan and Mark Sieben, all of whom made it it extremely difficult for opposing hitters to find many open spaces to place their hits.
Pat Carroll was the leading pitcher for the Giants going 10-3 with a 1.30 ERA.
Though limited in their playing time due to injuries, Mike Miller and Bill Durbrow contributed to this World Series Title and have a share in what is now OFFICIAL: 2008 BAMSBL 45+ League World Series Champions : the GIANTS!
