Brewers North 8, at Athletics 25+ 7
The Brewers and A's played a tight game on Sunday, 7-18-10 at Woodside HS with the Brewers winning 8-7.
The A's got off to a quick start by posting 3 in the bottom of the first. Then Brewer pitcher Tyler Fitch settled down and only faced one over the minimum for the 2nd through 5th innings.
Offensively the Brewers didn't get going till the 5th when they finally scored. Then they tacked on one more in the 6th and 3 in the 7th to take their first lead of the day. But the A's scored one in the bottom of the 7th, then both teams scored 2 in the eighth. The Brewers scored one more in the top of the ninth to take a 2 run lead. But the A's battled back scoring one more run, but the Brewers got out of bases loaded jamb to win by one.
Offensively the Brewers were lead by Mike "T-Rex" Wilcox who was 3-3 with a double, a BB and 2 runs scored. After a performance like that the Brewer management is seriously considering moving him up in the line-up ... or down ... or whatever.
Other than than T-Rex the Brewer offense was held in check with no one having more than one hit. In fact the Brewers were out hit 14-9 by the A's but the Brewers were helped by 9 A's walks.
Barringer just had one of those days, where he hit 4 lasers but only had one triple to show for it. Joe-Joe mananged a single, Kosach a double, Woody a single, Thiago a single and Dirty a single. Jimmy-Jeans had 2 BB and a SB, and Malc was scared to swing the bat and had 4 BB's.
Neither Brewer pitcher had his best stuff but they both battled against a potent A's line-up. Fitch went the first 5 giving up 3 runs (none after the first), then Rocca came in for the last 4 innings. Despite struggling with his location and hitting 2 batsmen, Rocca managed to get the victory with a game ending backwards K.
