Brewers North 4, Oakland Oaks 25+ 3
Not that Moscone is a gem or anything ... but at least it wasn't Terra Linda. And it was a great day in the City for baseball, as the Brewers edged past the Oaks 4-3.
Again, of course, the Brewers were lead by 2 great pitching performances. Rocca (after getting used to the 3' high mound) pitched 6 solid innings giving up no earned runs, no BB's, 1 HB and 5 K's. Rocca was spotting his fastball all day and keeping batters off balance with his change-up and curve. The Oaks scratched across 3 taking advantage of some untimely Brewers' errors. And in a role reversal Tyler came in for the 3 inning save. Clearly over-served after a weekend eating pig and downing multiple brews, Tyler wisely asked out of the start. But he pulled it together and faced the mininum over his 3 innings, giving up no hits and striking out 3.
Offensively the Brewers faced a solid Oaks staff, but managed to string together a few hits when it mattered. Bird had a solid day going 2-2 with a run scored, an RBI and 2 SB's. Kosach pool-cued an infield single for an RBI. Petke managed a single and a run scored. Woody had 2 singles. Malc got things started in the 5th with a double over the centerfielder's head and scored on a double by Dirty. Dirty also scored a run and made a running catch in the 9th to save extra bases. And Thiago had a sac-fly in the 2nd that scored the Brewers first run.
In a game that the Brewers had to have to maintain 2nd place they held on thanks to some great pitching and timely hitting.
And a special congratulations to Joe and April who are getting married next weekend in Tahoe. And Joe, being a true ballplayer, scheduled his wedding and honeymoon around Labor Day to miss as few games a possible. Cass please take note.
