Kezar Brewers 11, Oakland Oaks 25+ 7
The newly names Kezar Brewers got off to a good start in 2011 with an 11-7 victory over the Oakland Oaks on Sunday at Palo Alto HS.
The Brewers were lead, as is often the case, by good pitching. Veteran hurler Mike Rocca got things started going 5 innings, striking out 4 and only allowing 2 ER (albeit on a HR on a belt high fastball on an 0-2 count ... the kangaroo court says that is worth a round of beers) for the W. New Brewer Jared Leiderman got the old-school save, going 4 innings giving up 4 hits, striking out 4 and only giving up 3 earned runs. A good start for the Brewer rookie.
Offensively the Brewers had several players with multiple hits. Dell lead the way with 3 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI's, Woody chipped in with 2 hits a run and an RBI, Will was super dirty and had a double, single, run and an RBI, and Barringer went 2-3 with a run, and RBI, a double and a SAC fly.
Oh, and besides getting his first Brewer save, Jared had his first Brewer hit and 2 RBI's. And even better start for the Brewer rookie.
All and all not a bad start to our title defense. We had several hard hit balls right at defensive players (Petke might have had 4 of them), and our defense was a little shaky at times, but it was good to get the first game behind us and manage a win.
