Red Sox 10, Athletics 25+ 4
The Red Sox took advantage of 8 errors by the A's to put up 10 unearned runs and won 10-4, despite being out hit 11 to 9. The pitchers for both teams had solid outings. Particularly Evan Coller for the Red Sox. He went 8 strong, striking out 4 and only walking 2. The Red Sox made 5 errors of their own but Coller pitched around them masterfully, allowing only one of those errors to turn into a run. Nate Pearl went 3 innings taking the loss, giving up 9 runs, all unearned because he was forced to pitch around 4 errors by his defense. Steve Bridge pitched 3 scoreless for the A's, and Chris Chambers pitched the final two innings striking out 5 of the 10 batters he faced. The Red Sox bats came to life in the second after 3 crucial errors and a walk by the A's. Monge started the scoring with a 2 run single and Ryan O'Neil capped it with a 2 run double. After the the third inning both pitching staffs put up zeros until the seventh, when the A's scored two to make it 9-4. But the Red Sox added a run of their own in the bottom of the 8th. Then Ryan McClelland closed it out in the 9th, striking out one and giving up just a bloop single.
