Kezar Brewers 11, Oakland Oaks 25+ 6
The Kezar Brewers beat the Oaks 11-6 on Sunday at Gunn HS in the first round of the playoffs.
The Brewers got off to a sketchy start giving up 3 runs in the top of the first. But the answered back with 2 in the bottom of the inning, then 3 in the 3rd and 6 in the 4th.
Offensively the Brewers were lead by Thirsty Joe who went 2-4 with 2 doubles, 3 runs and 4 RBIs. Barr was also was 2-4 with 2 doubles, 3 runs and 1 RBI. Thiago was 2-3 with a double and a run scored, Rocca was 2-4 with a run scored, Petke was 1-3 with 3 runs scored, Willie worked 2 walks for a run scored and Jimmy was 2-3 with an RBI.
Jared got nicked a little in the first on some infield singles and some unstellar defense, but he settled down to go 5 for the win. Shockingly he had no K's for the first time all season ... apparently he has decided to change his strategy and pitch to contact in the postseason. Woody does not think he is too excited about this. And Old-Reliable Rocca came in for the a 4-inning save, striking out 2 and giving up no earned runs. I guess the month off agreed with him.
Next up are the Rays, who we assume are bubbling over with over-confidence after our regular season series. Let's hope our strategy worked.
